About Ascension

We welcome you to the worshipping, learning and serving community of Christians gathered together as Ascension Lutheran Church. We are one of over 10,000 congregations in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and a member of the Delaware Maryland Synod. In the U.S., this ministry includes 28 colleges, 8 seminaries, over 800 campus ministry involvements, 250 global mission partners, 300+ outdoor ministry sites, a publishing firm and a social service network of hospitals, nursing care and schools which serves 1 in every 50 Americans! Partnerships include ministries through Lutheran World Federation, Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran Disaster Assistance and Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services. We are an ecumenical church with full communion agreements with 5 Protestant denominations. Our local sister parish is St. John, Pimlico, and our global sister parish is “Fe Y Esperanza” in Nicaragua.

“Welcome Sunday,” on the Sunday after Labor Day, is when all Sunday School teachers are introduced and all church ministries are celebrated.  Study for all is from 9:45 – 10:30am.  Our worship times during the school year are 8:30 and 11:00am, all traditional liturgies. The Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated at all worship services. Our music ministry invites persons of all ages to add their talents in praise to God. Our preaching follows appointed Scripture readings for each day and points to Christ as Lord and Savior and the center of our life together. We enter to worship, we depart to serve! Sunday School during the school year for all ages (including teen and adult classes) is at 9:45am in various locations throughout the building.  Nursery is staffed from 9:30am through the end of the 11:00am service.

During summer, the schedule changes to 8:30 and 10:00 AM worship and is followed by a friendly “Meet and Greet” time of fellowship.
