The Archives committee is in charge of preserving the history of Ascension. This includes collecting member interviews, conserving photos, bulletins, directories, sermons, special music and documents pertaining to Ascension.

The Luther Room Gallery is open many afternoons and evenings.  Please call the office, 410-825-1725, weekdays between the hours of 10:00am and 4:00pm to be sure the exhibit is open.  Enter through the Yarmouth Road door.  Come see how Ascension supports the arts and our local art community!

The Christian Education Committee works closely with Pastor Judy Cobb, the Director of & Christian Education Kathy Shaw, and an array of volunteer teachers and helpers in prayerfully imagining, planning and implementing Ascension’s Christian Education program from Nursery through Adult.  Others are drawn into the program to develop and implement special events such as Welcome Sunday, ADVENTure, Children’s Christmas Worship and Program, Lenten Fair, Passover Seder, Scenes of Easter, Bible Sunday and Vacation Bible School.  In all things we seek to “Invite, Grow and Serve.”

The Ascension Lutheran Church Endowment Committee has as its primary charge the oversight of the endowments of the church.  Currently there are 11 established and funded endowments of varying sizes and with different designated missions.  The Committee selects the investment vehicles based on the guidelines provided in each endowment and monitors the performance with a goal of preserving principal while generating income and growth.

Mutual MinistryDonna Mollenkopf, Chair

The mutual ministry meets monthly to serve as a sounding board and support for the pastors. Members are also available to listen to concerns from congregational members.

A warm and welcoming group responsible for the Annual Congregational Soup luncheon, Spring Festival, Supper for Sons/Dinner for Daughters in the Fall and special celebrations for new and departing staff members.  Members of this committee also contribute food for Art receptions and serve at funeral receptions.

Social MinistryBrandon Gotwalt, Council Liaison

The mission of the Social Ministry Committee is to serve those in need both locally and throughout the world.  The Social Ministry Committee undertakes a number of initiatives throughout the year.  These include providing food to the Assistance Center of Towson Churches (ACTC), especially in February and August. Also, Thanksgiving baskets are donated to ACTC.  At Christmas time, gifts and grocery gift cards are collected and donated to the Baltimore County Dept. of Social Services.  Ascension has also provided shelter to homeless families through the Baltimore Interfaith Hospitality Network. Ascension is a member of the Baltimore Regional Initiative Developing Genuine Equality (BRIDGE), which is a group of congregations seeking to end concentrated poverty and promote equality throughout the region.  Ascension has also partnered with Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity in building or renovating a number of homes for low-income families.  Social Ministry’s sub-committees include the Nicaragua Partnership, which raise funds to benefit Fe y Esperenza Lutheran Church in Nicaragua.

Worship and Music - Lisa McGill, Chair;  Lisa McGill, Council Liaison

The worship and music committee meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm to discuss and decide on issues pertaining to worship and music here at Ascension. Its members are those concerned with worship and everything that goes into its preparation and presentation. This includes issues concerning Music Ministry, ushers, altar guild, assisting ministers, lectors, acolytes and crucifers, bread bakers, and any other ministry that impacts the worship life of Ascension.
