During the summer, there is no Sunday Church School.  As always, children are warmly welcomed in worship services.  Adult Education is also on hiatus during the summer months with the exception of  Bible Study on Fridays at 11:00am.

Sunday Church School for children and youth begins at 9:45am and lasts about 45 minutes, depending on the length of the concurrent worship service. About 9:30 on Sunday morning families begin arriving, usually through the Yarmouth Road door. Children age 3 through 6th grade meet initially in the Yellow Room (at the top of the steps at the Yarmouth Road door) to learn Christmas music, then go to classrooms. All other children go directly to their classrooms. A Greeter will help you and your child/ren find your classrooms. Your teacher, adult helper and your classmates will welcome you. There will be a lesson based on the lessons read in worship that day. Younger children will have time to play games or use toys in their classrooms. Older children will engage in crafts, Bible study, discussion and other appropriate activities. Teachers and adult helpers will remain with your child in their classroom until you pick them up after study or worship at about 10:30am.  Confirmation classes (grades 7 and 8) meet on Sunday mornings at 9:45am. in the Middle School Room.

Adult Education classes at Ascension generally run on a 6 to 8 week schedule. A Spirituality series usually meets in the Parlor (up the stairs from the Yarmouth Road entrance, to the right). Other Adult classes meet on Sunday mornings in the Nave, Luther Room or Chapel (both located off the Narthex near the Worcester Road entrance). Signs are posted at the Yarmouth Road entrance and at the door of each classroom to advise you of topics and locations of each class. Coffee and snacks are served most Sundays, with a brief social time before classes convene. All are warmly welcomed and encouraged to spend an hour in study and an hour in worship every Sunday morning.

Weekday Offerings for adults welcome participants to attend just once or regularly.

The Christian Education Committee works closely with Pastor Judy Cobb, the Director of Christian Education, Kathy Shaw, and an array of volunteer teachers and helpers in prayerfully imagining, planning and implementing Ascension’s Christian Education program from Nursery through Adult. Others are drawn into the program to develop and implement special events such as Welcome Sunday, ADVENTure, Children’s Christmas Worship and Program, Lenten Fair, Passover Seder, Scenes of Easter, Bible Sunday and Vacation Bible School. In all things we seek to “Invite, Grow and Serve.”
